Simple Amenities You Really Want a Student Apartment to Have
When looking at various student apartments for rent, it is easy to get caught up in the fancy amenities like swimming pools and fitness centers. These amenities are certainly nice to have, but you don't want to overlook simpler amenities that will make a huge difference in your day-to-day life as a student. Here are a few simple amenities you really want to have in a student apartment.
Multiple Bathrooms
Assuming you're living with roommates, you want to make sure there are enough bathrooms in the apartment. One bathroom may be enough for two roommates to share if you can line your schedules up just right, but if you have any more than two roommates in the apartment, you really need multiple bathrooms. This will save you from having to get up early to shower, fight over the bathroom when everyone has an 8 am class, and so forth.
A Large Fridge
While an apartment-size fridge can typically hold enough food for a couple of people, it's not ideal. Students usually want to be able to keep their food separately in the fridge. This is easier to do in a large fridge since everyone can have their own shelf. The same goes for kitchen cupboards; you want a kitchen with plenty of cupboards so each person can have their own.
Hard Floors
Carpet in the bedrooms can be nice, but in the living spaces, it really is best to have a hard floor. Students tend to party, and parties tend to create messes. Those messes will be easier to clean up on hard floors than on carpet. You don't want to have your security deposit withheld because someone spilled a blue drink on the living room carpet.
Accessible Location
You need to make sure it is easy for you to get from your apartment to school. Perhaps there is a sidewalk that is nicely cared for, or maybe the apartment community has a campus shuttle service they allow students to use. If you have a car, this is less of an issue, but you still want to make sure the drive to school is relatively short so you don't waste the day in your vehicle.
Amenities like fitness centers and tanning beds are nice to have in student apartments, but they are not essential. Check for the amenities above first, and if an apartment has those, you can consider it to be on your shortlist of options.
